Deal or No Deal
Individual work
- The teacher assigns the student one or more Deal or No Deal cards.
- The student reads the offer and decides — deal or no deal.
- They explain their choice in a few sentences and say under what conditions they would change their mind.
- The teacher can model a sample answer before the activity.
For example: Work 60 hours a week for double the salary — "Deal, because I'd save enough to retire early. But only if I could work from home."
Encourage students to give a reason and add a condition rather than just saying yes or no.
Pair / Group work (including breakout rooms)
- The teacher gives one or more cards to each pair or group.
- Students take turns reading the offer and saying deal or no deal with a reason.
- Their partner can challenge the decision, offer a different opinion, or change the conditions.
Class sharing
Invite some students or groups to share their most interesting decisions with the class.
The class can discuss:
- the most popular deals
- the most surprising no deals
- which offers divided the group most
- which card was the hardest to decide on
Focus on fluency, opinion language, conditionals, and confident speaking in English.
Extra ideas
- Students try to convince their partner to change their answer.
- Students rank three cards from easiest to hardest deal.
- Students write their own Deal or No Deal card for a classmate.
